Ahoy peeps! Those of you in the Artypeeps Facebook network will know that we have almost 900 Facebook friends all around the world. We want to get our network up into the thousands so we’ve now started a fan page. We’ll be profiling some of our favourite designers, illustrators, artists and other wonderful creatives on this new page. We’ll also be handpicking fans of our page to profile their work so we need to see lots of talented peeps liking the page!

Indiependence Day marks the end of Sober October

We’ve been working hard this month to stay off the booze and save our beer money to spend on books so on 1st November we’ll be throwing a little drinks party to retox and celebrate the end of Sober October. All welcome but please RSVP (see invite) as numbers are limited.

The event is kindly sponsored by Naked Wines (in keeping with our commitment to supporting independent businesses) and will be hosted by the lovely Treadwells bookshop in Bloomsbury.

We are hiring: WordPress developer for premium theme development

We are looking for a developer to build a fully customisable WordPress theme. We will provide the architecture and creative but we need a talented developer to create the backend. We can be flexible with the design if it means being able to customise an existing theme so would be happy to talk to theme developers who already have their own theme library. If Not Now, Whenever: 7 Cambridge Artists Exhibit at the Gallery on Redchurch Street, London

Redchurch Street, one of East London’s up-and-coming streets, is home to many emerging arty enterprises including the Gallery in Redchurch Street. This week the gallery housed a show by 7 artists from the Cambridge School of Art. Shows at self-hire galleries can sometimes be a little dubious but this exhibition caught my attention because the caliber of all the work was so high. (It helped, too, that Jane Bradley’s wonderful embroidered artist’s book was just inside the front door… like a moth to a flame, I was.) Further inside, Robert Good’s bookcase portraits were a wonderful example of how aesthetically pleasing a good bookshelf can be, while artist Matthew Wilson managed to make a bunch of abject objects (medical equipment) into beautiful, graceful installations. The show was a brief one-week stint but here are some images from the artists and you can get in touch with any of them via their website.

London Art Book Fair at the Whitechapel Gallery: Friday 23 – Sunday 25 September

This weekend is one of the most exciting events on the artists book calendar – The London Art Book Fair at Whitechapel Gallery. Those with an interest in high-end art books (ie. the most beautiful of beautiful reproductions), wonderfully handcrafted artists’ books and anything to do with the book as art will not be disappointed. There are also a couple of events on digital media and art publishing including a 4pm session on Saturday called Turning the virtual page: The digital future of art publishing A few of the Artypeeps crew will be there on the Friday and Saturday so come along and enjoy the book for reasons other than words!

Kristen here. I know it’s bad form to blog about the same thing twice in such a short time, but I have to share this beautiful typographic animation by Matt Young. It was produced for Penguin to publicise their fascinating book about translation – Is That a Fish in Your Ear? by David Bellos. Such a fine piece of animation. I’ve got the full creative jels over this one.
